With a Backpack of Faith

It's been a great week here in Vejle :) Thank you so much for all the prayers and lovely messages!! I love hearing from each and every one of you :D <3

To start the week off, we had a fantastic lesson with a man we met while knocking! If anyone tells you nothing ever comes from knocking on people's door, you can just tell them ''Kind sir, you're absolutely bonkers!''

The man we found, T, looks like the typical driver of a Harley, with a heart of gold! Our appointment last Monday was so touching, and we definitely felt the Spirit. We stopped by later in the week to drop off some good old American Orange Rolls, and we have another appointment with him this evening :) It's going to be great! 

We then knocked on some doors in another part of Vejle, and found M, another really positive man with the most tatoos I've ever seen on one person before! We actually knocked his Girlfriend's door, and she told us that while she wasn't interested, we should come back and talk to her boyfriend, who is very religious. So of course we took the invitation, and we have an appointment with him again later this week :) And remember that man from last week, Justice? We saw him on the gågade on our way home for dinner. We had felt to take the 45 minute walk home rather than take the 5 minute bus ride, and on the way, ran into Justice again, this time, Sober! He remembered us, and we set up an appoinment for later this week :) These 3 men are so deligtful to talk to, and we're looking forward to these great lessons with them :)

In connection with this week's title, we had a little adventure this week! Our Saturday had been left open all week for finding opportunities, so we took the chance to head out to one of the smaller villages in our area - one where missionaries haven't been in a while. We decided on Give, a little town with not much going on. We broke out the backpacks, and stuffed them with copies of the Book of Mormon, water bottles, and of course, Faith :) We were so stoked to head out! 

So here we are in little old Give. We knocked on a little under 100 doors (yes, we counted), and the whole time, could only find filthy rich people, or little old senior citizens who didn't want to talk to us. We decided to take our lunch break around 13:00, and after our hour, we headed out again. As we started knocking in a new area, we ran into a whole lot of Jehovah's Witnesses! No wonder all the people we were knocking either weren't opening their doors, or would slam it in our face after peeking at us! We had been knocking the same neighborhood the Jehovah's Witnesses had just knocked! So we headed to another area, had 0 success, and decided to go home to Vejle for dinner, and try our luck there. 

So after knocking for 6 hours in Give, and not having any success, we planned on heading back out for the last 3 hours of the day to knock, and contact the man who's girlfriend said to come back on the weekend. And boy, were we blessed! M was so open, and just deligtful to talk to! We know that even though it didn't feel like we were having any success at all that day, at the very end, we were so receptive to the Spirit that we knew exactly what to say, and we were able to convey the importance of the gospel message to M :)

I was thinking about this experience we had on Saturday during my studies this morning. I was reading the last chapter of 2 Nephi, and the first 2 verses stood out to me. 

1 And now I, Nephi, cannot write all the things which were taught among my people; neither am I mighty in writing, like unto speaking; for when a man speaketh bythe power of the Holy Ghost   the power of the Holy Ghost carrieth it unto the hearts of the children of men.

 2 But behold, there are many that harden their hearts against the Holy Spirit, that it hath no place in them; wherefore, they cast many things away which are written and esteem them as things of   naught.

As I was reading these verses, I thought about how there are so many people we talk to throughout the space of the day, and even though we Speak Gospel truths to them, they never seem to care. I know that I feel the Holy Ghost, and that what I'm saying is true, so it's soo frustrating when these people brush us off and chuckle away! I think to myself, '' why don't these people realize the importance of our message?? Why aren't they feeling that these things we're saying are true??''

The Holy Ghost is here with us. He is carrying the message to their hearts, but they're not letting Him in. It is a personal action to allow the Holy Spirit to work on your heart and understanding. I know that what I am doing is right, But what can I do better?? haha, all of these questions just keep coming! All I can think is, 'agency man, it's a kicker!!'

But I know that as I keep working hard, I will see miracles in these people's lives! At least all these people we talk to are now introduced to the missionaries, and maybe someday, they will remember and be interested :) JUST KEEP SWIMMING, like McKenzie's new fish, Peesh!! ;)

But all in all, we had a really great week! We found 3 new investigators, and a whole lot of potentials! We had a phenomenal lesson with a less active woman, and she came to Stake Conference yesterday! :D

​SØSTER WILLIAMS!! :D It was wonderful!! She gave me the biggest hug right when I walked in, and I was sooooo happy to see her :) Welcome to Denmark, my dear friend <3

I hope you all have a fantastic week, because ours was wonderful, and this next week will be even better :) We even saw a rainbow this morning :)

Bring It

Hello Friends and Family!! :) I hope you've all had a fantastic week!

Our week started off with a UFO sighting!! Just kidding, it's really a Water Tower out in the middle of sheep grazing fields! But it was still really exciting!! hahaha

​The week hasn't been the most exciting in terms of the Work progressing to the people here in Vejle. It's been frustratingly slow with all the people cancelling, dropping, or burning us! But after a slow two weeks, we're ready to show all these people what they're missing!

Sister Woster and I are ready for whatever the World throws at us, because we've had it all! A naked man answered the door, a drunk man gave us hugs after crying all over us **(it's actually a really great story, stay tuned), we were followed by a cat, our landlord asked us to inform him when we hear our neighbor Upstairs, and we've just had a great time getting to know our companionship :) 2 weeks Down, at least 4 more to go :)

We had a really great experience with that man I talked about earlier - his name is Justice, and he walked onto our bus totally drunk, jamming out to some tribal music. He began telling us what was going on in his life, and absolutely loved the fact that we were Americans. After a while of chatting, he was interested in hearing about why we're out here in Denmark :) We taught him the first lesson about Joseph Smith and the Restoration, and he just kept asking us question after question. We're not sure how much he was really taking in while he was drunk, but he gave us a heartfelt thanks, and shed tears after we prayed with him. He called us a few minutes later, and got the address for the church Building in the city he would be in that sunday :) we're not sure if he ever showed up, but we hope to see him Again in a few days when we're up in his area :)

With as slow as the Work has been here in Vejle these past few weeks, I absolutely love this scripture I found the other day while I was studying.

Galatians 6:9 reads, ''Let us not be weary in well doingæ for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.''

Sister Woster and I have both confessed that this has been the slowest, most physically and mentally draining few weeks we have ever experienced on our missions. We are physically sore and exhausted, as well as mentally drained. We're trying to figure out how we can help fix this fall back we've both been experiencing, and as a result, we've had absolutely wonderful experiences getting to know each other and learning how our companionship Works :) I know that we are placed in companionships by inspiration, and taht we can always learn something new from every person we come in contact with :)

This week is already looking brighter, as the days get longer and warmer :)

New Transfer, New Companion, New 'Do

To start off, I want to let you all know that All the missionaries here in Denmark are safe and sound. Despite the crazy action happening around Copenhagen, we're all alright! But we all have been asked to be on the lookout for any prying questions or questionable happenings around us! Don't worry, we're all staying safe!

That said-  Good morning World! Today's early hours have felt a little bit colder than usual, but that won't keep us missionaries away from the library! Hahaha, I hope you all had a wonderful week!

This past week up in Vejle hasn't been the happiest on my quest of searching for souls! Of course, when a new Sister comes, and you want to show her how great your area is, everyone cancels on you and/or is completely uninterested in listening, and you only end up with 8 lessons in a week! But! That only means that, just like the weather, we can only go up from here :) We're still working our hårdest, and that's what matters :)

Nothing too exciting happened this week...

other than....

​THIS! Yes, I got a haircut :) And I'm loving it! I got a little too fed up with my hair getting caught in my coat and scarf and bag and getting all crazy in the Wind.

​So there we have it :) Much better!!

I also got to get close and personal to my first Danish Castle!!

​It's really quite large.....

​So that's exciting!

We were up in Kolding helping renovate the hair salon that we got our feet nibbled on by the fishies :) We had a great time, and I showed my skills of disassembling things and patching up holes on the wall. There were a lot of them. I also tasted my first PINEAPPLE CHERRY. My goodness, it was so good! I think I'm addicted! Good thing we're going grocery shopping today :D

We've got great plans this week in Vejle :) Now that the Holidays are finally coming to a close here in Denmark, a lot of our dear positive humans we visit will be home :) And of course, people will actually be home/out and about for us to talk to them :D Wish us luck!

No Longer Green

Hello my dear friends and Family!! As you could probably guess from the title of this weeks email, I am no longer a Greenie!! I finished up my 12 weeks training program yesterday, and now I am a full-flung missionary! And, to mark the occasion - TRANSFERS!

We found out on Friday what was going to happen during this transfer season. I had become a little anxious - Søster Sorensen started training me right after she was trained, so the possibility was there for me to train someone this transfer. But alas, it was not to be! But Søster Sorensen did leave Vejle :( She's now down in Odense, and I'm hear to lead out :) It's a little stressful, but I think I can do it!! :) My New Companion is Søster Woster, from California, and she's a completely different person than Søster Sorensen! They may both call Cali their homes, but their personalities are totally opposite! I love them both to death already, though!! Søster Woster is tough and witty and so good at Danish that I don't want to speak it around her, just in case I'm not understandable!! Hahaha, but thankfully, she's already told me that my Danish is absolutely fine! It's obviously not as good as hers, but that's where improvement comes into play anyway :)

I'm extremely excited to get the Work here in Vejle on a constant upward slope :) Leading out, I'm already feeling the stress, but stress is always a good thing, right?? :) LET'S DO THIS!! Even though I'm not a greenie anymore, I think my Greenie Fire is burning as strongly as ever this week!! :)

I thought I'd answer some quick questions sent to me this week :)

1. What has been your biggest challenge this week?

This Past week, I've been dealing with the stress of leading out an area! I don't have Søster Sorensen with me to tell me what bus to get on and when! Thankfully, I've been making sure I remember all that!

2. What has been your biggest concern?

Leading out the area......I don't want to forget anyone or leave anyone out!!!

3. What has been your biggest success?

I gave a talk in Danish this past Sunday at Church!! I was super nervous, but everyone told me they could understand me!! So that's always a plus!! hahaha

4. Who has been your favorite person this week? Why?

SØSTER SØRENSEN!! Definitely! I'll miss that crazy hippie lady! But we'll see each other at Stake Conference and Zone Traning :) So that's good!

5. What has been your most significant tender mercy?

I was talking to a man at the Bus Station this past Friday. He didn't speak Danish, and thankfully he spoke English, so I was able to communicate freely with him :) The Danish is coming, slowly, but surely!!

I talked to this man about a number of Things about our church, and he was continually gaining interest and asking more questions. It was getting to be the last few minutes we can be outside, so Søster Sorensen and I had to head home, but at the end of my conversation with this man, I asked if we could say a prayer with him. He said I could, and in very choppy English (my goodness, it's soooo hard to pray in English now!!), I prayed for him and his Family. At the end of the prayer, as we were saying goodbye and exchanging contact information, he told me that he was feeling a very special feeling right then during that prayer, one he can't completely explain. He had tears in his eyes as he thanked me, and I felt the Spirit so strongly!! Sadly, he doesn't live in Vejle, but he'll hopefully contact the number we gave hime for where he lives!! The Spirit Works Wonders, and I'm so thakful for this opportunity to make a difference in someone's life!

6. What are you looking forward to this coming week?

We contacted a woman on the street the other day, WHO is very excited us to come over :) Our appoinment with her is solid, and it's going to be amazing! We also have 3 other potential investigators we'll meet with this week, and a number of other people we have talked with! It's going to be great!

7. Do you have a goal set for this coming week? Tell me about it.

A funny, practical goal: Time to crack down on my eating habits! The Christmas season is over, and even though Denmark still has so many Pastries I have yet to try, I will not eat them!! We'll see how long this lasts! hahaha

8. Which scripture has had the biggest impact on you this week?

3 Nephi 22:10. This scripture is so absolutely beautiful, and I am forever grateful for the knowledge that I will always have God with me :)

You Raise me Up *

I had a great experience this week here in Vejle! The other day, I was not feeling very well at all, and my body was sore and just didn't want to do anything. But I knew that I could push myself without hurting myself, so Søster Sørensen and I went out and did what we had planned to do anyway! Even though my mind was a little grumpy because I was achy, I thought to myself that I would make this night worth it!
We headed out and the first person we visited wasn't able to meet with us at that time, and at the door, we couldn't find a day in the coming week that would work for both parties. So we decided to  go through our schedules and contact each other again in a few days. I was a little disappointed, and decided to myself that I would work even harder with the next person. We went on our way and contacted another person who wasn't able to meet at the time, but we did make another appoinment for next week. That was a little better, but I knew that I could work even harder and have a great spiritual experience!
We rounded the corner and decided to knock on the doors in a neighborhood we hadn't hit before. The first 10ish doors weren't positive at all, and there was always something  going on inside that prevented us from coming in or even chatting at the door. But finally we came to a door. Søster Sørensen started out the contact talking about families, and the great Peace and joy we experience from the knowledge that we can live with our families for eternity, even after death. The Young man at the door wasn't interested in talking about religion, but he explained to us his own ideas. He was very intellectual, and we could tell that he had already put a lot of thought into how religion plays in his own life. We all discussed our feelings and ideas and we felt the Spirit as we bore testimony to him. But the experience really took off when we began talking about our potential and our purpose here on earth. The Young man was firm in his opinion that we are all just here because that was the natural order of the process of the earth. When we explained to him that God created the earth for us to learn and grow and experience Things to become more like Him, he jokingly asked why it was important to know that. He expressed his concern that if we all have the potential to be a god, why was our God so special. That's where the night became absolutely amazing. I explained to him that God is our loving Heavenly Father, and that He wants us to have the best experiences we can that help us become more like Him. Just like our Earthly Fathers love us and want what's best for us, our Heavenly Father wants the same, and knows exactly how we can succeed.
Søster Sørensen and I saw the Wheels turning in this Young man's head as he felt the Spirit work in him as he listened to me bear simple testimony, and all of a sudden, he was asking us questions from his soul, asking us what his potential was and why, especially, was he himself here on the earth. We testified to him that we can all find out for ourselves through prayer and scripture study, and we invited him to visit Mormon.org and contact us with any questions. He was very positive about the website, and we are excited to follow up with him in a couple weeks.
As we walked away from this experience, Søster Sørensen turned to me and told me that right when I bore that simple testimony to him, she was feeling the same need to do it. She also told me that as far as she could tell, my Danish was perfect. As I was speaking, I felt that it wasn't my own knowledge of the language, and the Word order was scaring me as it didn't feel like the same grammar structure as the English I'm used to. But the Words fell out of my mouth as naturally as English, and I know that it was the Spirit helping me.
 I am so thankful for the Spirit, and thankful for this opportunity to witness the Spirit work so quickly in someone's life. This Young man's demeanor took a total 180 degree turn, and he opened up to our message in the Space of 10 minutes, standing out in the Cold outside his door.
I know that this Church is True, and that Christ's Gospel was restored through the Prophet Joseph Smith. I have no doubt in my mind that the Book of Mormon is the Word of God, and that it contains the fulness of the Everlasting Gospel. I love being a missionary, and I love expressing this great message to the people in Den Danske Mission. I have felt the love of the Savior better than I ever have, and I look forward to this entire year of 2015 being on a mission :) There is so much to do, and in so little time!!

*Funny story. Many of you will recognize ''You Raise Me Up'' as a song sang by the glorious Josh Groban. So Søster Sørensen and I have decided that though the message of the song is absolutely wonderful and uplifting, because it is not MoTab or EFY or Classical, we will not listen to it. But, sadly, I can't figure out how to take music off my iPod without deleting them all! So long story short, it's still on my iPod. Well, here we are, making chocolate lava cakes for ourselves, and Drømmekage for the wedding today, and washig dishes all at the same time. Suddenly, Søster Sørensen heard Josh belting his blessed pipes and ran around the Apartment trying to find the iPod to skip the song! I hadn't heard it, but once she did, she told me all about it and now I can't get the song out of my head. And there you have the inspiration for our email today :) hahaha

​Our darling Japanese investigator gave us Pocky!! We loved it! We may or may not have gotten a Picture with one up Søster Sørensen's nose....... ;)

​We took the 2 hour journey to Copenhagen this week! Søster Sørensen had to take her language test that is required to stay in Denmark. Mine won't come up for another 2 months, but it was nice to be in a city where the trains run every 5 minutes! Sjæland definitley has a different feel to in than Jylland!!

​We find out about Transfers on Friday this week, but we pretty certain this is our last week as a companionship :( So naturally, I had to bust out some stalker Photos of my beautiful companion with her natural face!! Vi ses Søster!
